A sustainable planner like Oak + Honey Event Planning Co. does all the things a typical planner does but is especially adept at reducing the impact your event has on the environment.

The average wedding in the U.S. produces 400 pounds of garbage and 63 tons of CO2. This can include flowers, paper (invitations), textiles (dress, suits), gas emissions (transportation), and so much more. Environmentally-friendly planning does not mean that your wedding needs to be zero-waste. What it does mean is that you’re conscientious about the resources consumed in the production of your event, and that you search out ways to make environmentally friendly choices throughout your planning process. A sustainable planner like Oak + Honey Event Planning Co. does all the things a typical planner does but is especially adept at reducing the impact your event has on the environment. As part of our planning process we regularly find creative ways to help you source materials and design details locally, and to work with green or do-good vendors who give back to the community.

In 2014 Oak + Honey Events Co. created the Recycled Wedding Boutique, a flea market of sorts where soon-to-be-married couples can shop for their weddings from the new, slightly used, and vintage items that recently-married couples no longer need.

Owner + Event Planner

I founded Oak + Honey Event Planning Co., because I have a passion for planning weddings that are meaningful to my couples and their families, and that touch the hearts of everyone in attendance. I married my high school sweetheart after 12 years of dating and wholeheartedly believe in celebrating love!

As a planner, I spend my days taking care of the many logistics that will ensure your event runs seamlessly, and as a designer I'm always working on creative details that will speak to your personal style. I'm passionate about using color, texture, patterns, and locally sourced materials to create an event design aesthetic inspired by you and your love story.

I believe in the power of well designed spaces, perfect color palettes, and event atmospheres that foster the kinds of memories you will cherish for years to come.

Oak + Honey's commitment to environmentally friendly events comes from my deep love of the outdoors. When I'm not working with clients, you'll find me exploring Ohio and hiking Cuyahoga Valley National Park with my husband, our son Finn, and our pup, Lola.

I feel incredibly fortunate to work with such wonderful couples every day and I look forward to working with you too!

Event Planner

It was the details that mattered most for Melissa Kress when gearing up for her 2015 wedding. In Melanie, she found her day-of event coordinator and also a friend.

"I loved how Melanie truly listened to our wants and needs throughout the planning process," she said. Melissa, who has a background in event planning, enjoyed that planning process more than she had anticipated and joined the Oak + Honey team.

Melissa has her Master's degree in counseling, a field she feels has helped her connect with her clients in creating their special, personalized events. She enjoys getting to know clients and their priorities in an effort of making the planning process stress free and enjoyable. She works as meticulously as she did with her own wedding, paying diligent attention in the small, often overlooked details and creating a relationship with vendors to guarantee a seamless event.

Her love of the outdoors runs deep. When Melissa isn't planning events, you can find her one with nature. In fact, she met her husband while planning events for a local parks and the recreation department. True to the mission of the company she works for, she and her family of four aim to be as eco-friendly as possible.

Annie McCarty

Office + Social Media Manager

Annie McCarty joined the Oak + Honey Event Planning Co. team in 2017 as its office and social media manager. She began her work in the wedding and event industry in 2016 after a 10 year career in corporate marketing. She provides support that is rooted in business operations of an organization, helping bring structure to both systems and marketing efforts. Her approach is simple and streamlined with an emphasis on efficiency.

In addition to working with clients and adding structure to the wedding planning process, Annie enjoys working on the team. "Melanie is incredibly easy to work with," she said. "It's obvious that her clients both like and trust her."

Associate Wedding + Event Planner

Oak + Honey Event Planning Co.s is seeking a creative, detail-oriented candidate to join our team as an Associate Wedding and Event Planner. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-4 years of wedding planning experience along with excellent sales skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to take initiative with new projects and tasks.

We are a team of planners and designers passionate about creating unique weddings and events with an environmentally friendly approach. Our clients’ experience is our top priority so we strive to provide extraordinary customer service to every client, every step of the way.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Networking and relationship building for lead generation

  • Selling wedding/event planning services to prospective clients

  • Writing proposals

  • Managing the client experience

  • Vendor/client communications

  • Event planning/production

  • Management on-site at events

  • Consultation meetings with clients

  • Leading your own team on an event day (1-2 assistants)

The selected candidate will independently plan between 8-10 events in 2019, with the potential for growth dependent on personal sales and lead generation. The selected candidate will be on-site for those events, and will be required to handle all client/vendor planning and communication leading up to and following those events. The estimated time required for planning and communication is # hours per week, and will need to be completed both during standard business hours and during nights and weekends as needed.

Must-haves:

  • College graduate

  • 2-4 years of wedding planning experience

  • Drivers license and reliable vehicle

  • Laptop and smart phone

  • Knowledge of Google Applications

  • Excellent communication and writing skills

  • Availability and eagerness to work weeknights and weekends

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Honeybook

  • Knowledge of Aisle Planner

The selected candidate will be a part-time, hourly, Oak & Honey Event employee.
